Accidentally deleted ext hd, unsure which program to use for data recovery?

I lost 120gb or so of data off a 500gb ext hd, i went to IBM create rescue media, and i clicked external usb thinking i had my little flash drive in, It changed my, my passport H: drive to IBM_USB Z: drive, i know there is different software for recovering erased and formatted data etc etc but idk exactly what happened to the data, whether it deleted the partition or completely reformatted(i don think this is the case because it only took a couple seconds to do it) the only info it has on it now is a couple hundred MB of IBM recovery stuff, which program do i need to use, TIA

  1. You can try to recover data even after reformatting with Easy File Undelete software: http://www.munsoft.com/EasyFileUndelete/ It uses unique modern algorithms to recover files that other software either recovers incorrectly or is unable to detect.
