  1. MASTER UNERASER: Just because a file isn’t visible in Windows Explorer doesn’t mean that it no longer exists. Master Uneraser analyses the hard drive at a low level, scanning the space to uncover files that have been deleted. Its Explorer-style display lets you see both deleted and current files. You can analyse a drive simply by clicking its icon on the toolbar and it’s possible to recover a file quickly with the Unerase icon. All of the popular file systems are supported and it works with removable media including memory cards. Master Uneraser is designed to work with Vista but is also compatible with Windows XP and 2000. The program installs as a 30-day trial, but to register for the full version only costs US$29.95 (around £15) which isn’t a lot given the powerful nature of the program. It can be downloaded from: http://www.secureaction.com/ SMART DATA RECOVERY: Smart Data Recovery is a tool for Windows that supports both FAT and NTFS file systems. The software can easily recover data from hard drives, digital cameras and any type of removable storage media including flash drives, USB drives, memory sticks and diskettes. The program has a neat easy-to-use interface and can recover any deleted files, including MS Office documents, photos, MP3 and zip files, even if the partition table of the disk is lost. It can be downloaded from: http://www.smartpctools.com/recovery/index.html UNDELETE PLUS (FREE): Undelete Plus is a free versatile program that will work with all the latest versions of Windows and can handle both FAT and NTFS file systems. It’s equally at home with removable media too so you can recover files from memory cards and flash drives. Tick the box to select a drive and click Start Scan to analyse the drive. This can take quite a while to complete on a large drive. When it’s completed the scan the right-hand pane shows a list of the files available for recovery. You can sort these into file types by selecting from the pane on the left. Select a location to save the undeleted files at the bottom of the screen. You have the option of retaining the original folder structure if you’re recovering entire folders. It can be downloaded from: http://www.undelete-plus.com/ RECUVA (FREE) Another good free one from: http://www.recuva.com/ wdw
  2. Have you tried Recuva? I reccommend Recuva (pronounced "recover"), it is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses! There are two kinds of people: those who have experienced data loss, and those who will. Remember the 3 rules of computing. 1) Back up 2) Back up 3) Back up.
  3. Check the recycle bin first-if it's still in there it's easy to recover. If not go back a few days in restore.
