How to recover deleted files in Windows XP after 'Defragmentation'?

I accidently (shift) deleted some important file from my D drive. Also I did defragmentation on this directory. Now I want to recover all those files. Is there any way to do so? I tried some 'undelete' software, but no use. :-( Please help me.

  1. accidental shift delete can be recover with software, most of the file already named by 'cluster' and the extention is still the same with the file that u delete. some software can be found on -----www.softpedia.com---- but if it is accidental 'CUT', then it'scan't be recover (based on my experience)
  2. I am afraid these file are gone. Defragmentation moves the files around and as a result the space occupied by deleted files get overwritten by existing files. Sorry.
  3. Try Pandora recovery software, works well for me, but remember it resurrects even deleted viruses. You can download it for free at http://www.download.com/Pandora-Recovery/3000-2094_4-10694796.html?tag=lst-1&cdlPid=10841895. Do let me know weather it worked.
  4. Restore your system.
  5. Salman A is right. You defragmented it and its your fault. If there were enought free space on your defragmented patition there is at least some hope (like 95% free space). If you can't get it from an undelete software, its gone.
  6. Just REPAIR XP using your XP CD. This is the best way to recover the OS.
