Software Backups

If i have backup software for a new computer can i install on another one?

I recently bought a new computer but i have an old one can i install it on that one as well? the software is microsoft home and student and windows 7. im not asking about the legality im just wondering if it would install.

1. It may install, but it will then try to validate, and if that software is registered to another computer, it won't validate, so it won't work. Many programs are okay with being installed on multiple computers, but others don't - and most operating systems, like Windows, don't.
2. Norton Ghost is used for what you're looking for. However, it won't work in your case because that copy of Windows is "tied" to your first machine. It will try to activate and it won't run.
