Software Backups

What backup software exists that can pick old files and put them on backup media?

And if backed up files get accessed it should restore those files from backup media (disks or tapes). I guess it should be some kind of file system combination to work like that. Does anything like that exist from Network Appliance?

1. you can use AMANDA,Areca Backup,Bacula,backup pc etc.
2. There is a lot of information about the different types of backups possible at http://www.harddrivebackupsite.com/Pages/BackupTypes.aspx. Most backup systems will let you choose which files to backup and which ones to restore.
