What is the best data recovery program for a physical hard drive failure?

I have a 2.5" laptop hard disk that got smashed. I want to recover the data (mainly a few work docs and photos) from within the drive. the drive is hooked up to a USB connection. which program would be the best to try to recover data on this drive. Windows XP is picking up the drive and lists it under device manager in the control panel. but it cannot detect the drive under administration tools. Other data recovery programs i tried are always searching for a physical drive or a drive letter (which doesn't exist for this drive) to begin any kind of recovery effort. the programs don't actually find the drive even though windows detects it as a "USB Device" under Disk Drives in the Device Manager. ANy suggestions on which programs i could use to recover, or any advice on how to make my drive appear like a physical drive in the computer. the USB connection is my only option presently.

  1. something is wrong eather with your connect.... or your actual drive that you are trying to recover data from... my advise take it to a computer shop and let them test the hard drive if it is salvegable......
  2. If you can connect your drive to the computer you can try to recover your data with Easy Drive Data Recovery: http://www.munsoft.com/EasyDriveDataRecovery/ It uses unique modern algorithms to recover files that other software either recovers incorrectly or is unable to detect.
  3. if your drive is not shown by the computer then you can't use any software for the recovery, you need to do physical data recovery, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUE9buk2jyQ For more information regarding to Physical data recovery, visit the following url http://www.hdrconline.com
